Finally got some progress made this weekend. Unfortunately in all this weekend definitely earns the title of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”.
Why? Click into the post to see…
So the good news: the car is, in fact a car. It reached the roller stage today, and actually visiting the outside world!
The bad news: its probably the last time for a few weeks (maybe this year) I’ll be able to work on it.
The ugly: a bad leak in the master bathroom above the garage (directly above the live camera, actually) caused a good 30-40 square feet of sheetrock to pull away from the ceiling.
Until the leak fixed and the ceiling and bathroom repaired, I’ve had to move everything to the side in the garage. Thankfully I built the elevated body buck, so the car is sitting happily (on its wheels!) under the body.
In reality I may be able to do small bits here and there, like hopefully I can finish the few bits of drilling left on the engine bay sheetmetal so I can get it powdercoated. It remains to be seen how much time and money its going to take to fix the garage, though. It makes it unlikely I’ll be driving the car next summer, though.
Anyway, first things first. A video of the car leaving the garage:

Getting the front of the car down off the jack stands:
Its down!
Time for the rear. Oops, jack isn’t quite high enough. Well, at least its high enough to get the jack stands loose. Mental note: jack the rear first next time!
Yikes, no brakes! Thankfully before the car rolled off the jack, we chocked the wheels:
Voila! Its on the ground!
Getting ready to roll the car out of the garage. The tyvek suit is not some indication of the level of cleanliness I follow when working on the car — rather the crap dripping and falling out of the ceiling was messy.
Its outside!
Yup, those are some sticky tires!
Sitting on the unbolted seat pretending to drive the car. Really it would’ve been easier to get it out and back in if I had the steering wheel installed. It turns out even worse than 10″ wide tires with manual steering is needing to turn the wheels by the shaft. Ooof.
We got everything moved in the garage and got the buck up towards the front. Its like six months ago all over again!
Its a very tight fit! 3 inches clearance on each side and I can barely turn the front wheels. Oh, and of course I aligned them by eye, so it doesn’t exactly track straight anyway.
Snug like a bug in a rug.
Now I just need to deal with getting the ceiling fixed.
