Final Powdercoating

This morning I picked up the rest of the powdercoating. I went a bit overboard and ended up powdercoating essentially all of the remaining panels (25 in all, for a total of just under 40 panels I got powdercoated). I’ve test fit most of them, and took advantage of that to get some photos of them as well as some of the other work I’ve done recently.

Read on for pictures… this is a long post with a lot of pictures, so be warned!

The back wall of the cockpit is powdercoated. The cockpit floors and transmission tunnel panels are all bare aluminum. These will definitely be covered by carpet. I’m undecided if I will cockpit the rear wall or not.

item 2583

The corner pieces are brutal to fit and frankly don’t fit particularly well, but excepting some small gaps, they do fit.

The center glovebox is also powdercoated (as is its door, although its unclear to me how to mount it).

item 2589

The passenger side of the rear corner pieces equally fits poorly, but it works.

item 2592

The flash tends to blow out the bare aluminum and the glossier bits of the powdercoated panels, but a shot of the trunk shows that all of the trunk except for the trunk boxes are powdercoated. The trunk boxes will be painted to match the hammer finish of the radiator shroud.

item 2598

The rear of the corner panels. These being powdercoated should help protect them from being damaged by rocks and grit kicked up by the tires.

item 2601

A view of the trunk with the trunk lid on, and the battery lid off.

item 2604

A lower shot showing the placement of the glovebox in the trunk. The battery terminals can be seen in the lower left.

item 2607

This is a closeup of the battery terminals. These are for jumping or charging the battery, as it will be difficult to get to once installed in the battery box and the body is on the car.

item 2610

The rear view of the drivers side cockpit corners.

These two are views of the mechanics of the car from below the trunk, once the trunk is on.

Another job I did get done this week was installing the passenger side 4-into-4 header. These two photos show that.

This weekend I’m hoping to get the rear wiring buttoned up and the fuel lines buttoned up. If I get all of that, I may affix most of the rear end sheet metal. I should be getting the fuel injection system and gauges this week, as well. Progress is being made!
