Seat Mounts

The last weekend has been pretty busy. I’ll be posting really three updates for the work I did, mostly because it was sort of all over the place in terms of what I was working on.

I’m still in the midst of a spot where I really need to get the body back off the car so I can finish some wiring and mechanical work. Until then I’ve been trying to find little detail stuff here and there to work on. I have some parts I need to paint, and I wanted to them ready so the first nice (not so windy) day I can spray them with some black epoxy paint. I’m going to pull off the brackets I built for the brake reservoirs and repaint them, as well as the seat brackets.

To paint the seat brackets, I needed to get them fitted in the car and make sure I didn’t need to drill any more holes in them. That was the first thing I worked on this weekend. Read on for pictures.

I didn’t have more than a couple of hours on Saturday morning to work on the car.

The seat mounts are two pieces of steel — a base plate with four bolts on it, and an angled mount that fits over the bolts and is held down with screw knobs. This makes the seat movable by unscrewing the knobs and repositioning the seat forwards.

The first step was to get the base mounted to the seat, and bolt the plate to the seat base so I could position the seat in the car.

Once I had the seat positioned, I marked its corners with a Sharpie while I was sitting in it. I then pulled the bottom plate off, aligned it back with the marks and traced it. All the rivets in the middle had to be removed so it would sit flat.

The last step was redrilling the rivet holes for the base plate.

It was nice getting the seat positioned to be able to verify where I’d be able to reach on the dash as well as pedal positions. I haven’t permanently attached the base plate yet, as I need to paint it first.

I started futzing with the passenger side, but didn’t make much progress on it. That’ll be a task for next weekend.
