After work today, I grabbed an hour and a half and managed to finish getting all the engine bay sheet metal positioned and drilled! In reality, its not all of the engine bay, but its the stuff I needed to have done and powder coated before I could think about installing (or ordering) the engine.
I decided yesterday that it was going to be best time-wise if I get the parts I have done coated, and deal with some of the smaller other bits at some point in the future.
The reason for doing some now versus waiting for all of it is that some of the remaining engine bay sheetmetal gets positioned around some parts, like the radiator, that aren’t intalled yet. My guess is this will end up costing me more money, but will save time right now.
Once I got all of the sheet metal drilled, I partially disassembled the brake lines and got all the metal removed from the car. This is the first time in ages I’ve had all the sheet metal off the front of the car. It looks funny like this…
So my goal the next couple of days is to find a powdercoater in the area and find out what this is going to cost me. I might decide to do the trunk sheetmetal, too, although that could cost me an extra $200 so I might skip it. It entirely depends on what it costs.
This was a big milestone. I’m glad to have finally reached it. Next step — ordering the motor!
