This weekend hasn’t been terribly productive from the standpoint of getting work done on the Cobra. My parents have been in town and that has been most of my focus. However, during some free moments, I’ve gotten some small bits of work done on the car.
I’d ordered some more parts from Breeze Automotive this week and most of them showed up on Friday. This morning I installed a fuel filter bracket, adjusted some running of the fuel lines, and some other miscellaneous bits. Jen also came over and helped me bend the larger fuel line.
This three day weekend started off, as I posted two days ago, with picking up the engine. That wasn’t the only work I got done this weekend, however. Although this ended up another weekend where I seemed to spend more time in stores than working on the car, I made some good progress. Read more for details and (hopefully) photos.
A car without a motor is pretty much nothing but an overpriced wagon — its not even as cool as a big-wheel since you can’t even pedal to make it go. Since I have wheels, I figured it was about time to do something about making it go.
I know its been a while since I posted an update, however I have been up to things this week. On Monday, I finally ordered the motor for the car! I happened to have taken today off, and surprisingly the motor was finished in just a few days (as opposed to months for some engine builders!), so I met up with Mike Forte and got the motor from him!

Today wasn’t quite as productive as yesterday, but I got the gas pedal positioned and installed, and did some adjustments to the way the Wilwood pedals were installed to make it all work. I also got part of the drivers side footbox riveted up. As usual, read the rest of the post for pictures and more detail.
Now that I have the various panels for the engine bay powdercoated, it was time to start installing them. It took four hours today (and really I can’t figure out why), but I got the passenger footbox installed. Read the rest of the post for pictures…
Yes, following in the tradition started yesterday, not such an exciting title. I found another four hours or so of time to work on the car today, and managed to get a good bit of stuff done. Rear brakes, the passenger cockpit floor and various tidbits were all on the menu today.
Yes, not the spiffiest of titles, but it is what it is. I spent about five hours today working on the car. I’d still be working on it, but my back really started to kill me so I’ve stopped for the day and will pick it back up tomorrow.
I got a lot done today. With some attention to the rear end and the cockpit, its nice to end a day of work feeling like some real work got done. Read the rest of the post for pictures of the things I did …
Just a quick update. Tonight I dropped off all of the front sheet metal I have actually finished prepping for powder coating. It turned out there was a shop I found good reviews of just a few miles from my house, which was convenient.
Originally I was going to do a gloss black to match the frame, but decided to go with a silver/black hammertone finish. It was the original finish I was planning, and didn’t cost any extra so I decided to go with it.
I should have the panels back in a week and be able to get them in the car. I also spent some more time drilling tonight, and got the passenger floor mostly drilled. I bunged up my center punch, though, and need to go buy another one tomorrow.
After work today, I grabbed an hour and a half and managed to finish getting all the engine bay sheet metal positioned and drilled! In reality, its not all of the engine bay, but its the stuff I needed to have done and powder coated before I could think about installing (or ordering) the engine.
I decided yesterday that it was going to be best time-wise if I get the parts I have done coated, and deal with some of the smaller other bits at some point in the future.
