Now that I have the various panels for the engine bay powdercoated, it was time to start installing them. It took four hours today (and really I can’t figure out why), but I got the passenger footbox installed. Read the rest of the post for pictures…
Powdercoating Preview
I picked up the powdercoated engine bay panels today. They came out beautifully! Read the rest of the post for some pictures.
March 23, 2008
Yes, following in the tradition started yesterday, not such an exciting title. I found another four hours or so of time to work on the car today, and managed to get a good bit of stuff done. Rear brakes, the passenger cockpit floor and various tidbits were all on the menu today.
Saturday, March 22nd
Yes, not the spiffiest of titles, but it is what it is. I spent about five hours today working on the car. I’d still be working on it, but my back really started to kill me so I’ve stopped for the day and will pick it back up tomorrow.
I got a lot done today. With some attention to the rear end and the cockpit, its nice to end a day of work feeling like some real work got done. Read the rest of the post for pictures of the things I did …
Powdercoating
Just a quick update. Tonight I dropped off all of the front sheet metal I have actually finished prepping for powder coating. It turned out there was a shop I found good reviews of just a few miles from my house, which was convenient.
Originally I was going to do a gloss black to match the frame, but decided to go with a silver/black hammertone finish. It was the original finish I was planning, and didn’t cost any extra so I decided to go with it.
I should have the panels back in a week and be able to get them in the car. I also spent some more time drilling tonight, and got the passenger floor mostly drilled. I bunged up my center punch, though, and need to go buy another one tomorrow.
Finished Engine Bay Sheet Metal! (kinda)
After work today, I grabbed an hour and a half and managed to finish getting all the engine bay sheet metal positioned and drilled! In reality, its not all of the engine bay, but its the stuff I needed to have done and powder coated before I could think about installing (or ordering) the engine.
I decided yesterday that it was going to be best time-wise if I get the parts I have done coated, and deal with some of the smaller other bits at some point in the future.
More Sheetmetal Progress
I’ve set a goal of doing a little bit of work on the car every day, so I can get back into the swing of working on it. Yesterday I spent a couple hours in the morning working on more sheetmetal work.
Started Working Again
Its been quite a long time since I posted, and a very long time since I actually managed to get any work done on the car. Its been a long two months, but today I got things moved around in the garage and started to set back up for working on the car.
An Update For the New Year
Well, the moral of the last week is that just when you think things are settling down, s#!t happens that just resets everything. I don’t have any updates on the car, but I’m guessing it’ll be a few weeks before I can even touch it again at this point.
This car feels like it is never going to get finished. At least its thawing this week, so hopefully I can get it out of the garage and move the parts around again to get it back in the garage and on jackstands. I’m sure I’ll post another update in February.
Drove a Cobra… Finally!
I finally did it — I got to go for a ride in a Cobra… and drive it! As I’ve been visiting my parents for the holidays, I took advantage of a new company in the Phoenix area that is renting Factory Five Roadsters and rented one for the day.
